#How to upgrade mac os 10.11 to 10.12 update#
I do a lot of work with statistical software and because I can't update my Mac there are certain functions and programmes that are starting to become unusable. <- this is the direct example of when I tried to just update it to Sierra. I only have 10.11.6 (El Capitan) right now and I can't see any updates for upgrading it to 10.12.
#How to upgrade mac os 10.11 to 10.12 install#
Right now I wanted to install a new program on it but it says it won't run unless the OS is 10.12. When I say 'doesn't work', it starts installing (the window pops up) and then another window pops up saying: This version of macOS 10.12.6 cannot be installed on this computer. Upgrading from 10.11.6 El Capitan to 10.12.
I have then tried manually updating from the Apple website database - doesn't work. I have also tried looking through App Store and manually updating that way - doesn't work. I have tried via the classic Software Update route but nothing comes up.
Next, you should do a thorough Mac cleanup to have it running smoothly even before upgrading. As a general rule, any late 2009 Mac or newer will theoretically be able to run it without any issues. I want to update it as I appreciate that El Capitan is well out-of-date and my apps (and system in general) is starting to reallllllly slow down. In order to prepare to upgrade to High Sierra you should, of course, verify if your Mac is compatible with the new system. I currently have an iMac (20-inch, mid 2009) running on OS X El Capitan (version 10.11.6).
